Cred: an introduction
Cred is an idea we're experimenting with.
It's a feedback loop. A way of showing appreciation. A way of earning goodwill.
We call it a reputation currency.
Finding and Using Your Cred
Logged in to your AdHack account? (No account? Please join!)
Then you'll be able to see your Cred at the top of each page.
Interact with AdHack and you'll start to accumulate Cred. For example:
- Rate an ad out of 5 stars.
- Make a comment on an ad.
- Create a blog post.
- Post an ad to your portfolio.
- Buy or commissions an ad.
The more you contribute to AdHack, the more Cred you get.
You can always see your Cred balance — where your Cred has come from and where it's gone. Gone?
Sharing Your Cred
Once you've got some Cred, you can share it.
How?
On some pages on AdHack, notably ads, you can Give Cred.
Hit the Give Cred link and you can show your appreciation for an ad by giving it some of your Cred.
Decide how much Cred to give and that amount is moved from your Cred account to the ad creator's Cred account.
A new social bond is created and the ad creator gets love for their work.
Cred Caution
Cred is an experiment we're running. It may work. It may not.
The way we've designed it may be broken. In fact, it's almost sure that in some aspects our designs are flawed.
We're going to be changing Cred as we go, as we learn about what works.
We may have to zero your Cred. We will almost certainly have to rejig the weighting of actions. We may even remove it entirely.
Like we said, it's an experiment.
Our goal in rolling it out is to learn from it to make AdHack work better.
So What Do You Think of Cred?
We want to know. Like it? Hate it? Love it? Confused by it?

Cred
Submitted by Jared Cicon on Fri, 08/21/2009 - 4:00pm.Every content portal has a novel gimmick of one type or another that is meant to increase morale and help maintain and 'active site community'. I don't see where in concept, 'Cred' is any worse than the standard fare out in cyberspace. I will reserve final judgement for a few months down the road.
I will probably lose some Cred for my cynical opinion but what can I say, at this point in my career I am streetwise and cautious when it comes to any new contest portal. Give me some credit here.
Thanks for the feedback and realism
Submitted by James Sherrett on Mon, 08/24/2009 - 9:26pm.Hey Jared, thanks for the feedback and healthy dose of realism. Our goal for Cred is to provide a simple way for folks to find value in the collected actions of people. We've built is around the work you do on AdHack so that you're rewarded for good work.
Give it some time and use and then see what you think.
And tell us. It's flexible and needs its own feedback loop to get better.
