Movie theatres have fought for the past decade to have the biggest sound, the plushest seats or the most theatres in their building. But I don't care.

I want great popcorn.

And most theatres serve terrible to mediocre popcorn. So when I discovered the Dunbar a few years ago, and tasted their popcorn, I knew I'd found my movie-watching home.

Now we go to see anything passable at the Dunbar, just for the popcorn. I asked Connor, the man behind the concessions at the time, about the popcorn. And he let me in on a few of their secrets. I told him it was the best in town.

Every time I returned I told them their popcorn was the best in town. I updated my blog post about the best popcorns of Vancouver just to highlight the new best popcorn in town.

Connor started calling me Popcorn Man. Even when Connor wasn't manning the counter, the others knew Popcorn Man. A few weeks later, driving by I noticed the sign read Best Popcorn in Town. I received an email from the owner of the theatre, thanking me for my blog post.

Hello James--

Wanted to send you a email concerning a review on UpinOntairo concerning Popcorns of Vancouver Theatres.

As the owner I wanted to thank you or whoever put the review on your page. I can tell you it made not only my day but all my staff, I can only tell you two staff members found this and came right into my office very excited. As we have been trying our hardest to give the best popcorn in town for the last few years. If you could pass my comments onto James Sherrett that would be appreciated.

Owner First Run Theatres

After seeing the sign reading Best Popcorn in Town on trip to the grocery store, I returned and snapped a few photos. In Photoshop I mashed them all together, wrote a few lines of copy and saved the file for the web. Done and done.

Holy crap that ad has a lot of soul!

I think the ad could be jazzed up a bit and the photos could be edited to make them pop a bit more. But I like the selection of shots you picked a lot.

This ad and its story is really what AdHack is all about. Great job!
